Muskoka, like many regions of Ontario, started a Stage 3 reopening on Friday, July 17.  The restrictions for "gathering limits" were loosened to the following:

  • Indoor gathering limits will increase to a maximum of 50 people;
  • Outdoor gathering limits will increase to a maximum of 100 people;
  • Gathering limits are subject to physical distancing requirements.

Public gathering limits still apply to indoor and outdoor events and a two metre distance must still be maintained.

WE CAN NOW OFFER OPEN HOUSES

For regions entering stage 3, the Province has lifted the prohibition on real estate professionals hosting open houses.

Real estate professionals can host open houses provided that they adhere to the Province’s indoor gathering limits of a maximum of 50 people. In all cases, individuals are required to continue to maintain physical distancing with people outside their households or social circles.

We have continued to follow recommendations during all phases of reopening and wish to thank all of the buyers, sellers and colleagues for their patience.

I am proud to be part of the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) who have demonstrated leadership in protecting the health and safety of our communities while continuing to offer services essential to Ontario’s economy.

This photo was taken yesterday at Diamond in the Ruff Golf Club.  During Covid restrictions we are trying to do the rounds to all our favorite spots.

It makes sense to help our local business community.  Lets try to keep our dollars close to home.

There are million of viruses that can be transmitted to humans. Over the last century epidemioligsts have studied thousands and estimated that we were due for another deadly virus.

This is not the first nor the last.  How we choose to deal with Covid 19 makes the difference. We still don't know enough about how this virus behaves or if and when we will get a vaccine so until then.....

We strongly support the government guidelines for stopping the spread of COVID-19. Please be socially responsilble by following recommendations.

  • Wash hands often and thoroughly for 20 seconds or longer especially when in out in the community.
  • Practice physical distancing of 2 metres (6 ft)  or more whichever is greatest.
  • Wear a face mask when you are unable to physically distance out in public. This help protect yourself and others.
  • Disinfect used surfaces often

How does this impact real estate?

The Ontario Real Estate Asscoiation (OREA) has strict quidelines for real estate agents and how we conduct business during the different phases of reopening.  Please ask me how this may impact you selling or buying property. You can also find more informaton at www.orea.com or www.reco.on.ca

Effect on Real Estate Markets post floods.

As one might expect there are some negative outcomes following floods. After doing a literature search about the effect of floods on real estate markets, the conclusions of articles and surveys are ambiguous and at times contradictory.

It appears that you need not be too concerned about your property and house value. Some articles suggest that values may drop initially but the market corrects sometimes as quickly as a few months. This also has a lot to do with the extent of damage and actual threat to human lives. Despite the damage that we have seen in Muskoka it is still considered relatively low to moderate. In addition, one article suggests that Canadians and Australians typically are not worried about flood risks like their American counterparts.

I think that each owner should consider their location and extent of this years damage. If you’re having to sell, relocate or to consider remortgaging it might be helpful to speak with a qualified agent who understands Muskoka Real estate well.

We went into Bracebridge yesterday to check on friends that live on Muskoka River. The devastation around Muskoka is hard to fathom. What was heart warming was the sense of community spirit. We witnessed people coming together to sand bag property. Hopefully, this will all end soon. Looking forward to drier and sunnier days,

This year the HARVEY KALLES, MUSKOKA office is sponsoring SPOTLIGHT ON MUSKOKA.  It has fast become a "must do" annual party.

Our local businesses get to showcase their products, services and talents. Restaurants are providing an array of delicious foods to sample and local artisans and businesses can show off their products. Our world famous resorts get in on the action as well.

I can attest to the wonderful variety and quality selction of the silent auction (or at least my wife can). There is something there for everyone.

My family has been spending summers in Muskoka for over 60 years. There's no better place to find adventure and create memories than at the lake. It's a great joy to be abe to pass down the family cottage and traditions to the next generation. This little fellow is the start of our new generation and will no doubt be sharing the fun with his cousins..
